MISC: Steve Jobs Internet Sitcom In The Works
by Jaymie Baxley on Mar.20, 2010, under Random Apple
Remember that Fake Steve Jobs from a while back? The dude behind that blog in which he pretended to be Steve Jobs and demanded that all iPhone users flood AT&T’s 3G network to teach the provider a valuable lesson about customer appreciation?
Well now Fake Steve Jobs, AKA Dan Lyons, is moving beyond the written word and is working alongside “Borat” director Larry Charles to create a pilot for a satirical web show based on the life of, you guessed it, the actual Steve Jobs. Not much is known at this time, but our bet is Jobs’ lawyers will be among the show’s most loyal viewers.
MISC: iMac User Accidentally Downloads OS X 10.6.3
by Jaymie Baxley on Mar.20, 2010, under Random Apple
While checking for updates last night, an average Joe iMac user accidentally downloaded a pre-release of OS X 10.6.3, reports TUAW.
“I got a new 27-inch iMac earlier this week,” he explained in a message to TUAW. “Last night I checked for updates and it starts ‘Downloading **PRERELEASE** Mac OS X Update…’ I figured what the heck and let it go. Now my iMac is on 10.6.3 which as far as I know isn’t available yet?! I am not a developer or anything so I am not sure why this happened.”
The unnamed user has no professional affiliation with Apple nor does he have access to any of Apple’s corporate servers. He preformed the update from his home and not at an Apple retailer.
From TUAW: This kind of update does not normally appear in the wild on Software Update. Prerelease, and specifically “**PRERELEASE**”, updates refer to Apple-internal builds distributed to any Apple employee who has access to Apple’s VPN. A **PRERELEASE** build is typically seeded to employees 24 to 48 hours before the build goes public via Software Update.

As of today, only 31 albums have been released in iTunes LP variations and the bulk of those albums premiered with the format. Despite Apple’s release of iTunes LP publishing kits to the public late last year, labels have been just as reluctant to embrace the format as consumers. Most predict that Apple will abandon iTunes LP by next year, though there is a possibility that the iPad could spark a resurgence of interest in the format.
